Henk van den Heuvel

Graduated from the University of Sydney in mining engineering; further education at Macquarie University with a degree in Economics (Business Law major) and a Post Graduate diploma in Applied Finance.

Worked as a mining engineer in South Africa and later as an engineer in Sydney for 30 years, focusing on structural and civil remedial industries.

Active member of Standards Australia’s BD-038-02 Technical Specification Working Group. Chaired the revision of SA HB 84 “Guide to Concrete Repair and Protection” and contributed to other standards, including AS 3740:2021 for waterproofing domestic wet areas.

Served 21 years on the Board of ACRA and 12 years on the waterproofing technical committee for the NSW Master Builders Association. Helped deliver waterproofing guides and received an Order of Australia Medal for his volunteer work in the building industry

Henk’s dedication to improving industry standards and his extensive volunteer work have made a significant impact on the building industry.

Ali Hadigheh
PhD, MEng (Struct), BEng (Hons 1), FHEA, CMatP

Dr Hadigheh is the Associate Head of Research Education and a Senior Lecturer in Structural Engineering at the University of Sydney (USYD). His research expertise includes the development of sustainable construction materials, corrosion protection and structural health monitoring, and valorisation of construction waste. He has secured over three million dollars in research funding and holds various patents for the recycling of composite repair materials. He has authored two books and published over 150 journal and conference papers. His research has significantly contributed to Australian standards, and he is actively serving on several committees, including MT-007 and SB-000. He currently leads the Smart Materials and Sustainable Structures group at USYD.

Jonathan Lynch

Jonathan Lynch is the Manager of the Design and Building Practitioners (DBP) Audits team at Building Commission NSW.

Jonathan manages the team responsible for carrying out the audits of register design practitioners and registered building practitioners under the Design and Building Practitioners Act 2020 (DBP Act).

The DBP Audits team includes Jonathan as the Manager and six senior compliance officers, two compliance officers and an assistant compliance officer. The team’s experience includes, architecture, mechanical engineering, building surveying, structural engineering building services engineering, façade engineering and civil engineering.

Jonathan has extensive experience as a government regulator in relation to the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and accreditation/registration of individuals and professional bodies and the development and approval of registration schemes for building professional. This includes assessment of individual applications and assessment of schemes for registration in relation to fire safety practitioners, building surveying, civil structural hydraulic mechanical and electrical engineering.

Jonathan’s experience includes assessment of applications for accreditation of building products and assessment of state and national schemes for accrediting building products. He has worked as acting manager of policy and a senior investigator at the Building Professionals Board and as a BCA advisory officer responsible for providing advice on behalf of the relevant NSW government agency to the public and industry professionals on the interpretation and application of the BCA.

Jonathan has written provided practice advice on the role of certifiers and interpretation and application of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and the BCA.

Jonathan worked as a district environmental health and building surveyor before joining the Department of Local Government.
