13th Biennial ACRA Awards

The 13th Biennial ACRA Awards celebrated excellence in remedial building and concrete repair, recognizing outstanding projects and individuals in the industry.

Event Details and Acknowledgments

The awards ceremony took place on 10 October 2025 at W Sydney, organized by the Australasian Concrete Repair & Remedial Building Association (ACRA).

• Hosted by ACRA President Karen C. Amery.
• Acknowledgment of sponsors: Platinum – Ardex and Gold sponsors – Mapei and Fosroc.
• Judges included industry experts Henk van den Heuvel OAM – ACRA Past President & GM (retired) Andersal, Dr Ali Hadigheh – Associate Head of Research Education & Senior Lecturer Structural Engineering University of Sydney, and Jonathan Lynch – Manager Design and Building Pracitioners, Building Commission NSW.

Award Categories and Structure

The awards featured multiple categories recognizing various aspects of remedial building and concrete repair.

• Categories included Service, Building, Infrastructure, Project Value, Research, Design and Innovation, and Long-Term/Durability Performance.
• Extraordinary awards included ACRA Life Membership, ACRA President’s Award, and the Michael Rutherford ACRA Remedial Building Excellence Award.

Winners of Service Categories

The winners in the Service categories highlighted excellence in concrete repair and waterproofing.

• Concrete Repair Winner: Cappa Construction & Maintenance Pty Ltd for the project at 23 George Street, The Rocks.
• Waterproofing Winner: RM Watson for the Otto 1 Rosebery – Residential Compliance Upgrade project.
• Strengthening/Protective Coating Winner: GHD (Marine & Civil Maintenance Pty Ltd, Fosroc ANZ) for the Midwest Ports Berths 3 & 4 Hybrid CP System Installation.

Winners of Building Categories

The Building categories recognized outstanding projects in commercial, multi-residential, industrial, and heritage sectors.

• Commercial Winner: Remedial Building Services for Victoria Gardens with Remedial Building Services Australia Pty Ltd receiving Highly Commended for Lands Building (part of Capella Sydney)
• Multi-Residential Winner: Brosnan for Oaks Shores Block 2, Queenstown.
• Industrial Winner: Duratec for Berth C&D Structural Refurbishment Project.
• Heritage Winner: Duratec for National Carillon, with GHD receiving a Highly Commended for Newcastle Ocean Baths.

Infrastructure and Project Value Winners

Infrastructure and project value categories showcased significant contributions to public works and smaller projects.

• Infrastructure Winner: Duratec for Berth C&D Structural Refurbishment Project, with Marine & Civil Maintenance Pty Ltd receiving a Highly Commended for Andrew “Boy” Charlton Pool Remediation Works
• Small Project Winner: Diagnostech Pty Ltd for the Substation Remedial Project.
• Mega Project Winner: Brosnan for Oaks Shores Block 2, Queenstown.

Research, Design, and Innovation Recognition

This category highlighted innovative approaches and research in the field of remedial building.

• Winner: GHD (Marine & Civil Maintenance Pty Ltd, Fosroc ANZ) for the Midwest Ports Berths 3 & 4 Hybrid CP System Installation.
• Highly Commended: Duratec for National Carillon.

Long-Term and Durability Performance Awards

The awards recognized projects demonstrating exceptional long-term performance and durability. Presenter: Dr Ali Hadigheh.

• Winner: GHD for Newcastle Ocean Baths – Restoration of the Heritage Façade.
• Highly Commended: Remedial Building Services for Miramar Apartments.

Extraordinary Awards and Overall Winner

The ceremony concluded with extraordinary awards recognizing lifetime contributions and overall excellence.

• ACRA Life Membership awarded to Brian Kaye, Grahame Vile, Henk van den Heuvel, and Peter Johnsson. Presenter by: David Mahaffey, ACRA Life Member.
• ACRA President’s Award jointly awarded to Matt Press, Deborah Lockart, Peter Johnsson, Helen Kowal, Tom Mackay, and Grahame Vile for their distinguished services. Presenter: Karen Amery, ACRA President.
• Overall Winner: Brosnan for the Michael Rutherford ACRA Remedial Building Excellence Award 2025 for Oaks Shores Block 2, Queenstown. Presenter: Mrs Donna Rutherford.
