GENERAL
The Advocacy Committee is established under Rule 42 to support ACRA’s representation of member interests on industry, regulatory, and policy matters. The Committee meets as required, is led by an Advocacy Lead, and the composition is reviewed annually following the AGM. The Committee must comply with confidentiality (Rule 37.5), governance rules, and communication restrictions (Rule 48).
SCOPE
Within the authority delegated by the Board, the Committee’s scope includes:
- Identify regulatory, legislative, and industry issues impacting members.
- Draft advocacy positions, submissions, and briefing papers for Board approval.
- Liaise with industry bodies, regulators, and government agencies as authorised by the Board.
- Support national advocacy campaigns, consultation responses, and policy discussions.
- Collaborate with the Technical Committee, where relevant, to ensure technical accuracy in advocacy materials.
- Monitor industry developments and provide early insights to the Board and members.
- Ensure all advocacy positions reflect Board-approved direction and ACRA’s Objects (Rule 5).
- Provide advocacy updates and/or presentations for members.
All activities are undertaken in compliance with meeting requirements (Rule 39) and proper record keeping (Rule 50).
OBJECTIVE
The objective of the Advocacy Committee is to:
- Strengthen ACRA’s influence government and industry decision-making.
- Represent member interests clearly, consistently, and professionally.
- Proactively identify and address emerging regulatory or industry risks.
- Position ACRA as an authoritative voice for the remedial building sector.
