Memberships Committee

GENERAL

The Membership Committee (MC) is established by the ACRA Board under Rule 42 of the Constitution to support ACRA’s Objects and uphold the standards of member conduct and professional practice across the remedial building industry. The Committee operates under delegation from the Board, providing both advisory and operational support in the assessment, oversight, and continuous review of ACRA Members.

The Membership Committee ensures that applicants and existing Members comply with the eligibility, conduct, and quality requirements set out in Rules 10–16 of the Constitution, and with the criteria established by ACRA for maintaining high industry standards.

The Committee meets monthly (or as required), is chaired by a Director-appointed Chair, and its composition is confirmed annually in accordance with ACRA’s governance expectations.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the ACRA Membership Committee is to maintain and strengthen the integrity, professionalism, and capability of ACRA’s membership base by ensuring that all Members and applicants demonstrate compliance with ACRA’s standards, values, and constitutional requirements.

The Committee exists to safeguard ACRA’s reputation, ensure industry best practice, and uphold the Association’s commitment to raising standards in concrete repair and remedial building. It achieves this by conducting rigorous membership assessments, overseeing periodic Member reviews, and supporting a fair, transparent, and accountable membership framework.

SCOPE

The Membership Committee is responsible for:

1. Membership Assessment & Admission

• Reviewing and evaluating all membership applications in accordance with Rules 10–12 of the Constitution and the Criteria for Acceptance.
• Ensuring applications address the required areas:
  • Education and training
  • Experience and capability
  • Quality systems
  • Commitment to ACRA and industry standards
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing reviews
• Conducting reference checks, verifying information, and making recommendations to the Board based on evidence and established weightings.

2. Membership Review & Compliance

• Conducting periodic audits of existing Members to ensure continued compliance with ACRA’s standards and Policies under Rule 49.
• Evaluating Member performance, technical capability, and professionalism in line with the Membership Review criteria.
• Responding to complaints or concerns regarding Member behaviour, conduct, or work quality, and making recommendations in accordance with the Constitution.

3. Maintenance of Standards & Industry Integrity

• Ensuring Members uphold the Objects of ACRA (Rule 5), including the advancement of remedial building practice, technical excellence, education, and collaboration.
• Supporting Members to maintain currency of knowledge, training, and compliance with industry best practice.

4. Advice and Recommendations to the Board

• Providing informed advice on membership approvals, compliance issues, disciplinary matters, and opportunities to strengthen membership processes.
• Supporting the Board’s governance responsibilities by ensuring all membership decisions are fair, consistent, and evidence-based.

COMMITTEE OBJECTIVES

The Membership Committee aims to:

• Ensure that all Members meet and maintain ACRA’s required standards, including capability, experience, technical competence, and ethical conduct.
• Administer a rigorous, transparent, and fair membership assessment process, ensuring that only qualified and reputable organisations are admitted.
• Support ACRA’s mission to raise industry standards, ensuring Members contribute to technical leadership, education, and best practice in remedial building.
• Strengthen the quality and cohesion of the membership base, fostering a community committed to collaboration, professionalism, and industry improvement.
• Maintain a consistent national approach to membership evaluation and review, ensuring uniformity across all States and categories of membership.
• Provide clear reporting and recommendations to the Board, enabling informed governance and strategic oversight of ACRA’s membership framework.
• Promote continuous improvement, ensuring membership criteria, processes, and review mechanisms remain current, relevant, and aligned with industry evolution and member needs.
